Every year, the munich Frühlingsfest officially initiates the Bavarian fair-season and drives thousands of visitors to the famous Theresienwiese, where its "big brother", the Oktoberfest also takes place every autumn. The tradition will be continued this year, with the 55th Frühlingsfest, starting on the 26th of April 2019 and ending 16 days later, on the 12th of May. As usual, the start of the festival is accompanied by a big opening ceremony, beginning at 2.30 PM between the congress hall and the traffic-centre, where breweries serve the first free beers.
The Frühlingsfest offers over 100 rides, including classics like the "Top Spin", the "Teststrecke" (test track) or the "High Energy" for adrenelin-junkies, but also calmer rides like the well-known ferris wheel as well as a lot of children's rides. From Monday to Friday, the rides are opened at 12 o´clock and on the weekends and the 1st of May at 11.00 AM.
The festival is also well known for its big fireworks displays, which you can enjoy on the 3rd and 10th of May.
Another specialty is the popular flea market of the "BRK" on the 27th of April, which is the biggest in Bavaria and where people are able to buy and sell objects from/to each other at bargain prices. But if you want to get the nice things, you should get up early, because the marked starts at 7AM and the best things are likely to be sold first.
Family day, where the prices of the attractions are reduced for children is on Thuesday the 30. of April and the 7th of May, so if you go there with your family, you have to pay less than you normally do.
Even though the first days are going to be rainy, you should consider coming to the opening ceremony as it is something really special you won´t experience everywhere.
And if you can´t wait for the next Oktoberfest, the Frühlingsfest is worth a visit.
