Tragic Incident in Freiburg: Man Shot by Police After Threatening Family with Shotgun

Authorities are investigating a tragic event that unfolded in Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl, near Freiburg, where a man was shot by police after he allegedly threatened his partner and child with a shotgun. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening and has raised concerns about domestic violence and police response protocols.

According to police reports, the situation escalated when the 47-year-old woman managed to call emergency services, seeking help while she and her 10-year-old child barricaded themselves in a room. The man, aged 48, reportedly fired rounds at the closed door, but fortunately, no one inside was harmed.

After exiting the residence with the firearm, the man was confronted by responding officers. Despite multiple commands to drop the weapon, he allegedly continued to pose a threat, leading the police to discharge their firearms. The man was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries following emergency surgery.
