In a tragic incident in the Berlin district of Britz, a 37-year-old woman was found severely injured in the hallway of an apartment building and later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities arrested her 44-year-old ex-partner, who is currently under suspicion of committing the crime. The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant on charges of murder, which is pending a decision by an investigative judge.

The woman, originally from Afghanistan, was discovered in critical condition on Thursday. Despite the immediate response from police and emergency services, she died as a result of multiple upper body injuries. The suspect, who also hails from Afghanistan, had been living separately from the victim. At the time of the incident, four children, who are the woman's offspring, were present in the residence.

Reports indicate that one son and one daughter were transported to the hospital via ambulance.

The couple had undergone a separation, and according to the public prosecutor's office, the victim had secured a restraining order against her ex-partner, effective until June 2025, under the provisions of the Domestic Violence Protection Act. This legal measure was taken after the woman had previously filed two complaints of assault against him, the last of which occurred in December 2024. However, the proceedings were ultimately closed when she retracted the allegations.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of violence against women in Berlin, as just two weeks prior, another woman was allegedly killed by her partner in Berlin-Spandau.

Statistics from the German government reveal that in 2023, nearly 940 females became victims of attempted or completed femicide, with 360 fatalities attributed to this form of gender-based violence, which typically involves women being killed by current or former partners.
