Gaissach. A house in Gaissach burned down on Monday morning; luckily the owners were awoken by their smoke alarm.
At 4.40 AM the incident happened. The married couple (60 and 61 years old) were woken up by the smoke alarm going off. The garage had already caught fire by that stage. The owner himself tried to extinguish the flames, but in vain. The fire crew, with 200 men, was able to control the fire and managed to save an attached residential house.
Eight people were injured. Amongst them was the owner of the house, who was brought to hospital suffering from shock. The damage caused is substabtial: police estimate it to be 500,000 Euro. The cause of the fire still remains unknown.
