Thu 10th Apr, 2025

The Filmpark in Babelsberg is set to reopen this weekend, marking a renewed commitment to its cinematic roots. After a challenging period marked by a decline in visitor numbers during the pandemic, the park's management aims to reestablish its focus on film and television themes that have made it a beloved destination.

Friedhelm Schatz, the director of Filmpark Babelsberg, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating that the park will enhance its offerings by closely collaborating with the nearby Studio Babelsberg, where numerous films and series continue to be produced. This partnership will allow visitors to explore historical props and costumes from iconic films, enriching their experience.

Among the new attractions planned for this season are a Virtual Reality game and a guided tour of the film studio, providing guests with an immersive experience into the world of filmmaking. Additionally, aspiring filmmakers will have the opportunity to create short films against authentic backdrops, supported by professional guidance.

The Filmpark has long been associated with the cinematic legacy of Babelsberg, having hosted the production of classic films such as "Sonnenallee," "Der Blaue Engel," and "Die Feuerzangenbowle." The shift back to its foundational themes aims to attract a larger audience and rekindle interest in its rich history.

After navigating the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely impacted attendance, the Filmpark reported that business has stabilized, concluding the previous year with a balanced financial outcome.

As the summer season approaches, Filmpark Babelsberg is poised to reengage its audience with captivating attractions that celebrate the art of film, inviting both new and returning visitors to experience the magic of cinema.
