New 1200 mAh Battery for Apple Watch Promises Extended Use
The Apple Watch has long faced criticism for its battery life, typically lasting about a day. However, a new accessory aims to alleviate this issue by providing an additional power source that users can wear on their wrist. Available in various models, this 1200 mAh battery pack, marketed as a power bank for the Apple Watch, can be found on platforms like Amazon.
With a capacity exceeding three times that of the Apple Watch Series 10's battery, which is rated at 327 mAh, this external battery is designed to offer a significant boost. Users can expect to recharge their Apple Watch at least twice, potentially extending its operational time to as long as three days. While the promised duration is appealing, its practical effectiveness remains to be tested.
Aesthetically, the power bank is not particularly sleek. Its design includes a magnetic attachment for the Apple Watch, resulting in a bulkier profile. Users may find the added thickness less than appealing, but functionality is the primary goal.
The device features a power toggle and an LED indicator that displays the battery level through three color codes: green (100%-60%), yellow (59%-11%), and red (below 10%). Charging the power bank itself is straightforward, utilizing a USB-C connection.
For those who prefer not to wear the power bank on their wrist, it can also serve as a portable charger for the Apple Watch, usable with or without the wristband. It is available in two color options inspired by Apple's own designs, namely Midnight and Polar Star. Additionally, there are three size variants: one for 44/45/46 mm models, another for 40/41/42 mm models, and a third for the 49 mm Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2. Priced at approximately 30 euros, the device is currently offered with a 25% discount.
While this accessory does not carry official Apple certification, it is still functional, with provisions in place for the watch's sensors to remain active. Small openings at the base of the power bank allow the watch to measure vital signs like heart rate and blood oxygen levels, although the reliability of these readings when used with the external battery has not been confirmed. The manufacturer claims the power bank supports fast charging, enabling users to detach it once sufficient power is restored to the watch.
