Ex-Hells Angel's Fate Hangs in Balance Following Arrest in Turkey

A former member of the Hells Angels motorcycle club, wanted in connection with a fatal armed robbery at a Berlin betting shop, remains in custody in Turkey. The circumstances surrounding his arrest and potential extradition to Germany are currently uncertain.

The individual is implicated in a 2014 incident in which a 26-year-old man was shot and killed during a robbery in Berlin-Reinickendorf. While the Berlin prosecutor's office is deliberating whether to file an extradition request, the decision hinges on a response from Turkish authorities regarding their willingness to cooperate.

A spokesperson for the Berlin prosecutor's office stated that they are awaiting confirmation from Turkish officials before proceeding with any legal action. If the Turkish authorities indicate a readiness to discuss extradition, the German authorities would move forward with an official request.

During the robbery, a group of individuals, some of whom were affiliated with the Hells Angels, was involved in the attack, leading to several convictions for murder by the Berlin district court in 2019. However, the man currently detained in Turkey has not faced trial in Germany, as he fled to Turkey shortly after the crime.

Since then, the case against him has been suspended due to his absence from Germany. According to the spokesperson, as of July 2014, the proceedings were put on hold as he could not be located.

The recent arrest in Turkey is linked to a broader investigation into various fraud cases, resulting in the detention of ten suspects. Reports from the Turkish news agency Anadolu indicate that some of these individuals also have ties to the Hells Angels, including the man sought by German authorities.
