In the toy store of Mr. Egidius Brummkreisel, many toys are waiting for their new owners. Little Lilli discovers a clown in the display window that she desperately wants to buy. Excited, she enters the store and is amazed by the plethora of toys available. One particular old suitcase in the corner catches Lilli's interest, and it turns out to be quite special. Unfortunately, Lilli's pocket money isn't enough for the clown, so she decides to return with her mother once her piggy bank is full.

After a long day, Mr. Brummkreisel closes his shop, and as the clock strikes midnight, a magical transformation occurs. The toys come to life, and they begin their 'playtime'. An adventurous journey into space is about to begin, with the old suitcase serving as the rocket. Just as the adventure unfolds, Lilli unexpectedly reappears in the store and joins the puppet Kasperl Larifari on a night-time escapade. Where this flight will take them, what they will experience, and whether they return on time remains to be discovered by the audience.
