NoNÅME: Sell la Vie
This exhibition artistically addresses societal and consumer critique, focusing on significant contemporary issues such as social injustice, the arms industry, climate change, the consequences of neoliberalism, and the escape into ecstasy and intoxication. The artworks by NoNÅME explore these themes through various mediums, including collages and photorealistic oil paintings that initially appear to be photographic prints. Over 90 pieces, gathered from both the artist's studio and international art collections, are currently displayed at the AMUSEUM of Contemporary Art. NoNÅME plays with the notion that the dream of a better life can ultimately only be purchased.
NoNÅME's art combines traditional painting with appealing advertising aesthetics and socially relevant themes, all delivered with pointed humor. His works thus reflect on the darker sides of neoliberalism, often portrayed with a touch of sarcasm.
In the humanistic spirit of artists such as John Heartfield, Keith Haring, and Banksy, NoNÅME utilizes the responsibility of visual art as a mirror of our time. He challenges the prevalent trend of self-promotion among artists, placing the art itself at the forefront. This is emphasized by the pieces currently presented at the AMUSEUM of Contemporary Art. While many contemporary artists focus on self-representation, NoNÅME radically rejects this personalization, choosing instead to highlight the art as an independent form of expression. Anonymity, often seen as a barrier to commercial success in the art world, is employed by NoNÅME as a tool to facilitate critical engagement with consumption, society, and power structures.
The exhibition's opening was also graced by TV comedian Max Uthoff (ZDF - Die Anstalt). Watch the video on Vimeo.
