Mein Jahr der Ruhe und Entspannung
Based on the novel by Ottessa Moshfegh, this theatrical performance tells the story of a woman who chooses to sleep through a year, rejecting the emptiness she perceives in her life and the art scene of New York. Disdainful of self-actualization, career pursuits, and social interactions, she embarks on a radical retreat. Her decision to hibernate for a year aims to erase the hollowness of her early 2000s existence, her cold childhood memories, and the remnants of her past, including her friend Reva. A dubious psychiatrist prescribes her a plethora of medications, leading to unexpected consequences as her unconscious self begins to take over. As she drifts into sleep, elements of self-care and parties re-emerge, causing her to question her memories and sense of reality. Ottessa Moshfegh's acclaimed novel explores themes of a disenchanted world, radical refusal, and the intertwining of self-care and isolation. Director Katharina Stoll transforms this narrative into an absurd journey through a labyrinth of dreams and reality, set against the backdrop of a New York gallery.
