Matinée-Konzert, Es war einmal... Ein Märchenkonzert

Prinzregententheater

Join us for a magical morning at the Prinzregententheater on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, as the Symphonieorchester Wilde Gungl presents a captivating concert under the theme "Es war einmal..." (Once Upon a Time). Experience thrilling tales of rushing Furies, blessed spirits, a gingerbread witch, and dark magic as the theater transforms into a world of fairy tales and legends.

The concert opens with the haunting joys and terrors of the ancient underworld, featuring the overture, fury dance, and the dance of blessed spirits from Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera "Orfeo ed Euridice." Next, venture into the dangerous Wolf's Glen where the desperate huntsman Max narrowly escapes a dreadful fate, showcased in the overture to Carl Maria von Weber's romantic opera "Der Freischütz."

Violinist Ilona Cudek, a long-standing member of the Münchner Philharmoniker, will then whisk you away to an idealized gypsy world with Maurice Ravel's virtuosic "Tzigane." After the intermission, the horns will majestically announce the famous "Evening Blessing," leading us into the depths of a labyrinthine forest--a place both peaceful and eerie, where a clever ruse helps conquer the dangerous gingerbread witch, as illustrated in the overture to Engelbert Humperdinck's opera "Hänsel und Gretel."

The concert will conclude on a lively note with Peter Tchaikovsky's waltz from "Sleeping Beauty" and Johann Strauss II's "A Thousand and One Nights." The event will be moderated by Kurt-Detlef Bock, with the baton led by our esteemed conductor Jesús Ortega Martínez.
