Malte Zenses: Durchhalten galore! Pinturas para perros
On Friday, May 9, 2025, at 18:00, the Sperling Gallery will open its doors to the first exhibition at its new location in the Kunstquartier, near the Lenbachhaus and the Pinakotheken. This exhibition, featuring the work of Malte Zenses, titled 'Durchhalten galore! Pinturas para perros', explores the intersections of subculture, social critique, and contemporary art. Zenses, known for his interdisciplinary approach, combines painting, drawing, installation, and text in his work. His latest project was created in collaboration with Pequod Co. in Mexico City.
Zenses' artworks are filled with symbols, typographic fragments, and found elements. His artistic language is deeply influenced by the aesthetics of music subcultures, zines, and other counter-movements. While his art may initially seem playful or pop-cultural, it often carries a sobering realization: a profound disillusionment rooted in the understanding that societal collapse is human-made, driven by power and greed. However, Zenses is not a cynic; his works are open, permeable, and personal, drawing from his own notes, collected images, and found objects--acting as an archive of the present.
The exhibition will run until June 28, 2025.
