Günther Uecker, Bühnenskulpturen und Figurinen für Lohengrin

Walter Storms Galerie

Günther Uecker (1930-2025) was one of the most active, internationally successful, and beloved artists in Germany. His name is inseparably linked to the legendary Zero Group, particularly known for his nail reliefs, which are highly esteemed worldwide. Most recently, in January 2025, four ten-meter-high blue stained glass windows titled 'Lichtbogen' by Uecker were inaugurated at the Cathedral of Schwerin in his home region of Mecklenburg. Uecker's multifaceted work also includes stage designs and scenic arrangements for opera and theater.

This extensive exhibition, long-planned with Günther Uecker, showcases stage design drafts and costume figurines that he created for Richard Wagner's 'Lohengrin' for the Bayreuth Festival in 1979. Following his sudden passing on June 10, 2025, the gallery also presents a tribute featuring selected works from his oeuvre, illuminating the long-standing friendship and connection with the artist that dates back to the founding of the gallery in 1977.

Besides numerous solo exhibitions, Walter Storms Galerie has also realized international projects for Uecker over the decades and has continuously accompanied his work.
