Die Vaterlosen

Münchner Kammerspiele – Schauspielhaus

A tragicomic struggle for love and money unfolds as a vibrant ensemble fest -- "A grand evening, clever, demanding, and challenging, whose idiosyncratic characters haunt one even in sleep." (SZ)

A Russian society in economic decline, unable to shake off the toxic ghosts of its overbearing ancestors, is deeply militaristic and dreams of lost grandeur. In his early work written by the Sea of Azov, known as "Platonow," Anton Chekhov bids farewell to a world in decline: The socially well-placed Anna Petrowna unexpectedly faces financial ruin. On the evening before the auction of her estate, a gathering of individuals convenes, playing as if there is still something to win. And no one sees the impending catastrophes.
