On Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 19:30, and additional dates, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz will present the opera L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti. The libretto, written by Felice Romani, is based on the work of Eugène Scribe. The premiere fever begins on May 13, 2025, with the official premiere on May 23, 2025. This performance will be in Italian with German and English surtitles and is recommended for ages 10 and up.

Nemorino is deeply in love with Adina, but she does not return his affections. When the macho Sergeant Belcore arrives with his soldiers and seems ready to win Adina's heart, promising her marriage, Nemorino becomes distraught. Fortunately, the quack Dulcamara is advertising a miraculous remedy for all ailments. Nemorino purchases a 'love potion' from him, which turns out to be just a bottle of red wine, yet it leads him to his desired outcome.

With L'elisir d'amore, the brilliant melody creator Gaetano Donizetti (allegedly composed in just 14 days) has penned one of the most delightful light-hearted Italian bel canto operas, full of affectionate humanity and playful wit. The opera debuted in Milan in 1832 to enthusiastic applause, and its popularity has endured ever since--many of the great tenors have melted hearts with the aria Una furtiva lagrima!
