Burkard Blümlein: Ein Ding und nicht ein Ding
We inevitably leave traces on objects--stains, scratches, fingerprints, and more. Those things, which often outlast us, tell stories about us, and we cannot contradict them. In a cave in southwest France, fossilized human saliva was found, a small nearly translucent droplet, almost like a pearl. It's quite wonderful, but what should one do with it now?
In the mountains of South Tyrol, one can find cup stones at exposed locations. Small round depressions were carved into the rocks to perhaps catch tears. Or maybe they were created simply because someone could and thought it looked beautiful. For no particular reason. Just like that.
