Annahstasia
Anahstasia Enuke possesses a voice that is a rare treasure, encountered only once in a few years. It is both soft and deep, at times tenderly yearning, and other times infused with a wisdom that one might not expect from someone in their twenties. Listening to the American-Nigerian singer evokes thoughts of legendary artists like Bill Withers, Nina Simone, and Janis Joplin.
Musically, Annahstasia navigates a landscape that blends folk, soul, and a hint of punk, all supported by a voice that fills spaces and opens hearts. With her debut album, Tether, set to be released on June 13 under the indie label drink sum wtr, she continues down this path. This album is filled with intimacy, resilience, and dedication, featuring songs that she has crafted over the years, tested on tour, and infused with life. It was produced in the iconic Valentine Studios in Los Angeles, recorded exclusively in live takes to capture the essence of the moment.
Joining her are producers like Jason Lader (known for working with Frank Ocean and ANOHNI) and guests such as the surreal poet Aja Monet and Nigerian-British musician Obongjayar, with whom she co-wrote the intense duet 'Slow'. Since her EP Surface Tension, Annahstasia has been hailed as one of the most exciting voices in the new soul/folk generation. Tether is her most personal work to date, brimming with gentle power and lyrical depth. In October, she will tour Germany, showcasing the full extent of her remarkable voice.
