Anna Ehrenstein
Experience the thought-provoking exhibition titled "Fully Automated Orientalism", curated by Michael Buhrs, at Villa Stuck - VS Interimsquartier. This exhibition delves deeply into the social lives of objects, post-colonial theory, and racialized identity. Through sculptural interventions, textile-based works, and video installations, Ehrenstein explores the intersections of systemic oppression, memory, and resistance, inviting viewers into an immersive experience that challenges dominant cultural narratives while celebrating the power of everyday resilience.
The exhibition features works like "Intimate Histories", a collaboration with Afro-German performance artist Rebecca Pokua Korang, and "Passdeutscha", a collaborative video with artist and rapper Leonidas Emre Pakkan (Osiris 33). The video work "Türkenstraße", a result of a site-specific workshop in Munich with artist Gülbin Ünlü, further exemplifies Ehrenstein's belief in the radical possibilities of spiritual coalition, ritual, and collective unlearning.
In "Fully Automated Orientalism", Ehrenstein combines various geographies, media, and cultural forms to narrate a coherent story about the ongoing negotiations of identity in a post-colonial world. By transforming everyday objects such as car parts, fitness equipment, and textiles, she creates a dynamic narrative that honors both the vulnerability and strength of those living untamed lives within a carbon capitalism.
