Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, is set to enhance its functionality with the introduction of a new feature that allows the application to interpret visual information. Dubbed Grok Vision, this innovative capability enables users to point their smartphone cameras at products, signs, and documents to receive information or ask questions related to what they see.
Currently, Grok Vision is exclusively available through the iPhone app, as noted by a representative from xAI. Android users will need to wait for future updates to access this feature.
In addition to Grok Vision, xAI has announced two further updates to Grok's voice capabilities. The chatbot will now support multiple languages beyond English, including Spanish, French, Turkish, Japanese, and Hindi. However, German language support is not yet included in this rollout.
Another significant addition is the real-time search function within Grok's voice mode, which will also be available on Android devices. To utilize this feature, users will need to subscribe to the premium Super-Grok plan, priced at $30 per month.
Over the past few months, Grok has seen a rapid expansion of its features. The chatbot can now recall previous conversations, suggesting a shift towards becoming a more personalized AI assistant. The introduction of Grok 3 earlier this year has expanded its AI capabilities, offering a range of models designed for varied reasoning tasks. This version emphasizes a more flexible voice interaction, allowing for a broader range of expressions, which is not typical among competitors.
Meanwhile, the privacy practices of Musk's xAI have come under scrutiny. The Irish Data Protection Authority is currently investigating how the platform, known as X, utilizes personal data from European citizens to train Grok's AI model.
