Bochum - An 86-year-old woman in Bochum fell victim to two impostors posing as window cleaners on April 26. The incident occurred around 4:45 PM at an apartment building on Propst-Hellmich-Straße in Wattenscheid. The elderly resident allowed the men into her home, only to discover shortly thereafter that her wallet had gone missing.
The suspects made their escape through the terrace door and fled into the garden. A vigilant neighbor, who was in the vicinity, managed to apprehend one of the fraudsters until law enforcement arrived. The arrested individual, a 17-year-old without a stable residence in Germany, was taken into custody. Meanwhile, his accomplice remains at large.
The criminal police are currently investigating the case and are urging anyone with information to contact them at 0234 909-4135 or 0234 909-4441 (criminal investigation department). This incident highlights a growing concern, as scammers frequently target the elderly with sophisticated ruses to steal money and valuables.
The police emphatically advise the public: do not let strangers into your home! If you suspect anything suspicious, call emergency services immediately at 110!
