Sun 16th Feb, 2025

The Eisbären Berlin have achieved a significant victory in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), defeating the Straubing Tigers 4-2 in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 14,200 at the sold-out arena near Ostbahnhof. This win marks the team's third consecutive home victory and ensures their early qualification for the DEL quarter-finals.

The game was characterized by intense physical play, with both teams engaging in numerous hard-fought battles. The scoring opened in the 14th minute when Leonhard Pföderl, following a well-placed pass from Frederik Tiffels, netted his 250th goal in the DEL. However, the Tigers quickly responded, equalizing just before the end of the first period with a goal from Elis Hede.

As the second period commenced, Straubing took advantage of their first power play, allowing Joshua Samanski to score and temporarily give the Tigers the lead at 2-1. The Eisbären, undeterred, capitalized on subsequent penalties against their opponents. Pföderl struck again during a power play to level the score at 2-2.

The decisive moments unfolded in the final period. Yannick Veilleux scored shortly after the period began, putting the Eisbären ahead 3-2 with another power play goal. The Berlin squad adeptly defended their slim lead, and in a strategic move, Ty Ronning sealed the victory by scoring an empty-net goal just 22 seconds before the final buzzer, as Straubing's goalie, Florian Bugl, had been pulled in favor of an additional skater.

This triumph reinforces the Eisbären Berlin's status as a formidable contender in the league, showcasing their resilience despite facing numerous injury setbacks throughout the season.
