Eastern German Economic Forum Explores Solutions to Current Economic Challenges

Sun 18th May, 2025

The Eastern German Economic Forum is set to convene in Bad Saarow, Brandenburg, where business leaders and economic representatives will engage in discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing economic crisis impacting the region. The three-day conference, which kicks off today at 14:00, will feature prominent politicians, including Manuela Schwesig, the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Participants will focus on critical issues such as rising energy costs, a shortage of skilled workers, high taxation, and cumbersome bureaucratic processes that are hindering business growth. The forum provides an opportunity for corporate executives to meet with members of the newly formed black-red coalition government to voice their concerns regarding the economic landscape of Eastern Germany.

On the agenda for the conference, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche is scheduled to address attendees on Monday. Additionally, on Tuesday, the government's representative for Eastern Germany, Elisabeth Kaiser, and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil will also participate.

Key industry groups, including the Federation of German Industries and various renewable energy associations, will be in attendance, contributing insights from their respective sectors. Recent findings from the Transformationsbarometer 2025 indicate that businesses in Eastern Germany harbor limited confidence in the new government's ability to implement effective growth strategies to revitalize the economy.

The Eastern German Economic Forum serves as a crucial platform for dialogue between the private sector and government officials, aiming to pave the way for actionable solutions that can help stimulate economic growth in the region.
