Dynatrace Enhances Database Management with AI-Driven Tools

Tue 11th Mar, 2025

Dynatrace has unveiled plans to improve its observability platform by integrating AI-powered tools aimed at enhancing database management and optimization. In a strategic move, the company has acquired the Israeli startup Metis, founded in 2021 by Roee Kriger and Itay Braun. Metis specializes in developing an observability system that leverages AI specifically for database environments, providing developers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) with deeper insights.

Databases are crucial not only in software development but also in application deployment, making their seamless operation vital for developers. To address the challenges associated with database management, Dynatrace is introducing AI-driven assistants designed to facilitate troubleshooting and performance enhancements. The technology developed by Metis offers targeted recommendations related to SQL queries, vector search inquiries, indexes, database schemas, and automated corrective actions.

In addition to the existing observability features already available on the Dynatrace platform for databases, the integration of Metis's technology is expected to significantly enhance user support. The company plans to combine the AI assistants from Metis with its existing AI solutions, Davis AI and Davis CoPilot. Preparatory work for this integration is already underway, with the first new functionalities expected to roll out later this year.

As part of the broader discussion around observability, the upcoming online conference titled Mastering Observability, organized by iX and dpunkt.verlag, will take place on June 5, 2025. The event will focus on the importance of logs, metrics, and traces, along with strategies for effectively monitoring and improving distributed systems. Key topics will include the transition from traditional monitoring stacks to scalable observability platforms and best practices for synthetic monitoring.
