Driver Sought After Fatal Hit-and-Run on A3

Tue 29th Apr, 2025

Wertheim (Baden-Württemberg) - Authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident on the A3 highway, where a driver fled the scene after causing a fatal accident. The police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the driver of a white van involved in this serious crash.

The accident occurred late on the night of April 26, when a 65-year-old truck driver was forced to stop on the emergency lane due to a mechanical failure. After exiting his vehicle, he was struck by a white van, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

In the aftermath of the collision, the driver of the van did not stop to offer help or report the incident, continuing to drive away from the site. This reckless behavior has prompted law enforcement to launch an extensive search for the suspect.

Following the initial collision, additional accidents took place. A subsequent truck crashed into the stranded vehicle, breaching the central barrier and coming to a halt in a dangerous position across the roadway. Another transport vehicle later collided with this truck, exacerbating the situation.

Authorities have now gathered additional information regarding the van that fled the scene. A special investigative task force has been established, and they have obtained a photograph of the white vehicle, which is believed to be a Renault Master model from the years 2011 to 2012. Notably, this vehicle is missing the glass from its right side mirror, which may aid in its identification.

The police are actively seeking eyewitnesses who might have relevant information about the incident or the vehicle involved. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the Würzburg-Biebelried traffic police at the number 09302/910-0.
