Discussion on Pharmacy and Medication Supply at the Chancellor's Office

Mon 16th Jun, 2025

The State Minister recently invited the President of the Hessen Chamber of Pharmacists, Christian Ude, for a meeting at the Federal Chancellery. This invitation follows a prior visit by Minister Meister to Ude's pharmacy in Darmstadt, where discussions centered around the critical issues of pharmacies and medication supply.

During the meeting, various aspects of medication supply were addressed. The pharmacy community is optimistic about collaborating with the new Federal Minister of Health, Nina Warken, who has committed to attending the upcoming German Pharmacists' Day (DAT). Initial discussions have been perceived as a positive step forward.

Ude expressed satisfaction regarding the minister's positive announcements, emphasizing the need for these declarations to be swiftly translated into necessary laws and regulations. The coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD includes provisions for an increase in pharmacist fees, dynamization, and the abolition of the discount ban.

Moreover, the meeting addressed the regulatory framework governing pharmacies. Meister highlighted the importance of these regulations in ensuring a secure and comprehensive medication supply, particularly emphasizing the unique round-the-clock service provided by local pharmacies. However, Ude pointed out the necessity for a modernized approach to these regulations.

Looking ahead, the newly established Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization will serve as a contact point for pharmacies, aimed at reducing bureaucracy and simplifying regulatory requirements. Meister outlined the relevant responsibilities and processes needed to facilitate this endeavor.

Ude also underscored the potential role of local pharmacies in emergency situations and national defense scenarios, asserting that the pharmacy network is indispensable in such contexts. Both parties concurred on the importance of making the necessary preparations and plans for pharmacies during peacetime. Future discussions are intended to continue.
