In a significant prelude to the Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has honored exceptional performances in film this year. The SAG Awards are widely regarded as a barometer for the Academy Awards, with many members participating in both voting processes.

This year, Demi Moore secured her position as a leading contender for the Best Actress Oscar by winning the SAG Award for her role in the horror film 'The Substance', which centers around a body-swapping theme. Timothée Chalamet also made headlines as he clinched the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in 'A Complete Unknown'.

As many SAG voters are also Academy members, the results from this ceremony often provide insight into potential Oscar outcomes, which will take place on March 2.

In the supporting categories, Zoe Saldana received the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the musical 'Emilia Perez', while Kieran Culkin was honored as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the Holocaust-themed drama 'A Real Pain'. The film 'Konklave' was recognized for having the best ensemble cast, a unique category in the SAG Awards that does not include a specific best film award.

Last year, the historical drama 'Oppenheimer' dominated the SAG Awards, winning three trophies, including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. Both actors subsequently won Oscars, and 'Oppenheimer' was awarded the Best Picture title at the Academy Awards.

This year's SAG Awards marked the 31st edition of the event, which is one of the most prestigious accolades in the acting industry, representing over 122,000 members of the guild.
