Darmstadt witnessed an unusual incident on Thursday when a small monkey managed to escape from its enclosure at the local Vivarium, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The monkey, identified as a capuchin named Tiziano, embarked on an adventurous outing around 2 PM. It successfully left its habitat and was spotted by a concerned passerby near the 'TU-Lichtwiese' bus stop, who promptly alerted the authorities.
Upon receiving the call, officers from the 2nd Police Precinct, in collaboration with Vivarium staff, initiated a search for Tiziano. The search team employed a creative strategy, using a banana as bait to lure the monkey out of hiding.
After a brief period, the clever tactic paid off. Tiziano emerged from his secluded spot, attracted by the banana, and was safely captured without any injuries. The monkey was subsequently returned to the Vivarium, where it resides.
This incident not only highlights the playful nature of the capuchin monkey but also the effective response of local authorities in handling unexpected situations.
