Thu 10th Apr, 2025

In a significant move for the club, SV Darmstadt 98 has announced the early extension of captain Fabian Holland's contract, which was set to expire at the end of the season. This decision comes ahead of their upcoming away match against Hertha BSC.

Holland, who has faced a challenging recovery process from a serious knee injury, will now embark on his twelfth season with the club. The 34-year-old defender has been a pivotal figure for Darmstadt since joining on loan from Hertha Berlin during the 2014/2015 season, later signing permanently.

Sporting director Paul Fernie expressed confidence in Holland's leadership, stating that he embodies the spirit of the club, both on and off the field. Coach Florian Kohfeldt also praised Holland as a vital presence within the squad, highlighting his strong character.

As Darmstadt prepares for their match against Hertha, Kohfeldt anticipates an exciting game, emphasizing both teams' offensive strategies and commitment to active defense. A win could confirm Darmstadt's status in the league, alleviating any remaining doubts about their relegation safety.

Holland, who is currently focusing on rehabilitation and training individually following his injury setback, commented on the contract extension as a significant vote of confidence and motivation for his return to the pitch.

The club remains optimistic about Holland's recovery and hopes he will be fit to rejoin the team during the summer training phase.

In related news, Darmstadt has parted ways with goalkeeper coach Dimo Wache by mutual agreement. Wache had been with the club since 2013, contributing to its development over the years.
