Fri 14th Feb, 2025

This weekend, Germany is set to experience distinctly wintery weather, characterized by frost and icy conditions. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings for severe cold, with temperatures expected to drop to double-digit negatives in some areas.

According to forecasts, residents should prepare for chilly days filled with snow and occasional sunshine. Meteorologist from the DWD indicates that scarves and hats should be readily accessible for outdoor activities.

The eastern regions of Germany are expected to experience more persistent frost, while the western and southwestern parts may see slightly milder temperatures. On Saturday, maximum temperatures are projected to range from -2 degrees Celsius in the Erzgebirge to 5 degrees Celsius in the Niederrhein area, with snowfall likely to occur mainly along the coast.

As the sun sets, temperatures will drop significantly. The coming nights are anticipated to bring severe frost, particularly in the eastern and southern regions, where lows could reach between -10 and -15 degrees Celsius. In some localized areas, even lower temperatures may be recorded.

On Sunday, the weather will see a mix of sunshine and cloud cover. While areas in central Germany may witness sporadic snowfall, the northeastern part will experience light, continuous frost. In contrast, the southwestern regions can expect temperatures fluctuating between -1 and 5 degrees Celsius, with the highest readings likely along the Rhine and Moselle rivers.

Into Monday morning, light snowfall accompanied by slippery conditions may occur in the south, while the majority of the country will remain dry and predominantly clear. The temperatures in the east could plummet to -12 degrees Celsius, and in snowy regions, it could become even colder.

Moving into the new week, the DWD forecasts that sunshine will accompany many areas. Although there will be minimal changes in temperature levels, the disparity between western and eastern temperatures will persist. In the eastern and northern parts, daytime highs are expected to range from -4 to 0 degrees Celsius, while the rest of the country could see slightly warmer temperatures between -1 and 5 degrees Celsius.

By midweek, the forecast suggests that western regions could see temperatures rise into the double digits, with eastern areas potentially experiencing daytime highs above freezing.
