Chase in Essen: Burglars Discard Loot During Escape
Essen (NRW) - Three men were apprehended by police after a dramatic chase that began with a routine traffic stop on the A52 near Kettwig. At approximately 6:35 PM on Monday evening, officers noticed a silver Opel Astra with French license plates that raised their suspicions. When the police attempted to pull over the vehicle containing three male occupants, the driver accelerated and fled the scene.
The police pursued the Opel in the direction of Essen, receiving assistance from additional patrol units. During the chase, the occupants of the fleeing car began tossing various items out of the window onto the roadway, according to a spokesperson from the highway police.
The pursuit came to a conclusion when the suspects exited the autobahn at the Rüttenscheid exit, closely followed by law enforcement. Under the A52 bridge, near the Messe Essen, the Opel collided with another vehicle and finally halted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
After the crash, one of the three men attempted to escape on foot, while the other two remained in the vehicle. All three were ultimately apprehended by the police. The individuals were identified as Serbian nationals aged 16, 20, and 46, and authorities suspect that they may be involved in burglary activities.

As a result of the collision, the A52 was temporarily closed in both directions starting from Kettwig, allowing officers to collect and secure the items that had been discarded by the suspects during the pursuit. Among the retrieved objects were tools believed to be used for burglary, as well as potentially stolen goods from previous crimes, as indicated by the police.
The traffic disruption led to significant delays in the area.
