Russian strikes cut power for thousands as Kherson ceasefire lapses
A temporary humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine's Kherson region, which had allowed civilians to evacuate the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, expired at 22:59 Ukrainian time (21:00 GMT) on Sunday. The truce had reportedly been respected since it began last week, although fighting continued in other areas.
On Sunday evening, Ukraine's air force said its air alert system appeared to have been hacked after a warning about possible radiation exposure over Kyiv was issued. The air force clarified there was no actual radiation threat and urged people to remain calm and follow official updates.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces struck energy infrastructure in four Ukrainian regions overnight on Saturday, cutting power to hundreds of thousands of homes. Some electricity supplies were restored by Sunday.
Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that a separate overnight strike killed two people, including a 13-year-old girl, in the Vinnytsia region.
Zelensky also said Ukrainian forces had struck a major missile fuel production facility in Russia's Rostov region, sparking a fire and damaging four production sites there.
