Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, says it has restored 90% of the $6.3bn in assets stolen during a hack on Thursday.

The company said the remaining 10% could take longer to replace in the necessary amounts.

Binance has repeatedly promised to cover the full losses from what is believed to be the largest crypto theft on record, saying it has set aside more than $6.34bn in company funds for this purpose. In a statement issued on Saturday, the company said it would bear the financial cost itself rather than passing losses on to users.

The FBI said on Saturday that North Korea was behind the hack. Two analytics firms had earlier told the BBC they held strong evidence linking the attack to North Korea's state-backed Lazarus Group, also referred to as TraderTraitor, which the FBI specifically identified as responsible.

Binance said it had replenished the stolen funds using a combination of reserves and its own corporate treasury. It confirmed that all affected holdings of bitcoin, ethereum and Tether, along with seven other widely traded cryptocurrencies, are now fully covered.
