Bethesda to Reveal 'Oblivion' Remake with Possible Immediate Release

Tue 22nd Apr, 2025

In a highly anticipated announcement, Bethesda is set to showcase the remake of 'The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion' during a live stream event scheduled for Tuesday at 5 PM CET. This confirmation comes after weeks of speculation and leaks regarding the project.

The gaming community has been buzzing with excitement as rumors surrounding the remake have circulated for months. Notably, there is a possibility that Bethesda may not only unveil the remake but could also make it available for purchase immediately following the presentation.

While the exact release timeline remains uncertain, the existence of the 'Oblivion' remake seems assured. Multiple credible sources, including industry leakers and gaming publications like Videogameschronicle, have corroborated its development. Additionally, screenshots showcasing the remake, developed on Unreal Engine 5, were inadvertently posted on the website of Virtuos, the studio responsible for the project.

Virtuos, a development studio based in Singapore with roots in China, specializes in assisting other development teams. The studio has previously collaborated with renowned companies, including providing support to Guerilla Games in the creation of the 'Horizon' series and aiding CD Projekt Red with updates for 'Cyberpunk 2077.'

This trend of outsourcing remakes and remasters to external developers is not uncommon within the industry. For instance, the remake of 'Demon's Souls' was handled by Bluepoint Games rather than its original creator, FromSoftware. This practice allows major studios like Bethesda to focus on new projects while entrusting remakes to capable partners. Fans speculate that alongside the 'Oblivion' remake, Bethesda may be concurrently developing new content for 'The Elder Scrolls 6,' which was first announced in 2018.

'Oblivion' originally debuted in 2006 as the fourth installment in the acclaimed 'Elder Scrolls' series and has since achieved cult status among role-playing game enthusiasts, partly due to its technical quirks and memorable NPC dialogue that often became the subject of memes. The game saw several downloadable content (DLC) expansions, including the highly praised 'The Shivering Isles.'

It is expected that the upcoming remake will encompass all additional content from the original game, including the infamous horse armor DLC, which sparked significant debate about the concept of DLC in gaming during its initial release. As anticipation builds, Bethesda plans to stream the 'Oblivion' remake reveal on YouTube at 5 PM CET.
