The excitement is building as the decision regarding Germany's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 approaches. Out of the 24 acts still in the running, seven hail from Berlin. This year's contest will take place in Basel, Switzerland, from May 13 to 17, following Switzerland's victory in 2024.
The selection process is being overseen by a jury led by renowned entertainer Stefan Raab, who is tasked with identifying the most promising candidates. The 24 selected bands and artists, having triumphed over an impressive 3,281 competitors, will compete in a series of preliminary rounds starting February 14 on the show 'Chefsache ESC - Who Will Sing for Germany?'. The jury, along with guest judges, will determine who advances, culminating in a final selection event on March 1, where the audience will cast their votes to decide who travels to Basel.
Among the notable acts from Berlin is Cloudy June, a 26-year-old artist recognized for her fiery red hair and alternative pop style, drawing comparisons to mainstream icons like Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. June aims to represent Germany as a queer artist, emphasizing the need for honest and modern music at the ESC.
Another contender is Enny-Mae, a 22-year-old singer who has collaborated with the production duo Paradigm. With streaming numbers in the millions, her music has gained traction, particularly on platforms like TikTok, although she may cater to a niche audience.
Fannie, a 42-year-old artist born in Switzerland, brings a unique perspective to the competition. Her music combines personal expression with artistic depth. She advocates for greater visibility of older artists in the industry, aiming to demonstrate that music knows no age limits.
Janine, relatively unknown until now, represents a wildcard entry. At 25, her lack of public exposure poses challenges, yet her past experiences in fashion and travel could translate into a compelling performance.
Another promising act is LYZA, a 23-year-old DJ and singer who has gained a following of over a million on TikTok. With her engaging takes on popular songs and original tracks, she hopes to inspire others through her music.
Moss Kena, a 27-year-old British artist, has already tasted success with a number one hit in Germany and Italy. His collaborations with various renowned artists prepare him for the ESC stage, where he aspires to elevate Germany's standing in the competition.
Noah Levi, a 23-year-old who rose to fame as a winner of 'The Voice Kids', continues to pursue his musical career. Despite challenges, he remains optimistic about captivating a broader audience with his unique German pop sound.
As the competition heats up, Berlin's diverse pool of talent showcases the city's vibrant music scene, setting the stage for an exciting ESC selection process.
