New Animal Species Unveiled as Berlin Zoo Opens for the Season

Tue 8th Apr, 2025

The Berlin Zoo is set to welcome visitors with the introduction of five new animal species as the season begins. Among these newcomers is the dromedary, a long-time favorite among zoo-goers, which will return to the zoo this summer. The zoo also announced the addition of the Beisa oryx and the eastern white-bearded gnu, which will share their habitat with the Grévy's zebras in a unique arrangement described as a 'trio living together' within the zebra house.

In addition to these species, visitors can anticipate sightings of the endangered Somali wild ass and addax antelope, expected to be on display by May. These animals will reside alongside the dromedaries at the horse tower, creating an exciting new exhibit for guests.

Zoo and Tierpark Director Andreas Knieriem announced that the petting zoo will reopen just in time for the weekend, allowing children and families to interact with young animals that have recently arrived. To celebrate the Easter holiday, the zoo has planned a special program featuring guided tours and themed days that will include interactive experiments and craft projects.

With the addition of these animal species and the reopening of the petting zoo, the Berlin Zoo aims to enhance the visitor experience, offering a chance to learn more about wildlife and conservation efforts while enjoying a fun day out.
