A police vehicle was involved in a traffic accident on Sunday evening in Berlin-Mitte, resulting in injuries to five individuals. The incident occurred on Behrenstraße around 8 PM as reported by the police on social media.

According to the latest information released by authorities on Monday morning, a 50-year-old woman attempted to turn her car but failed to notice an approaching police vehicle that was responding to an emergency, sirens and lights activated. The police vehicle was traveling on Behrenstraße towards Wilhelmstraße at the time of the collision.

The woman sustained serious spinal injuries and was taken to the hospital along with her 49-year-old passenger, who suffered head injuries. Both remain under medical care. The police officer driving the patrol car also suffered injuries, including head and hand injuries; however, a voluntary breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.0.

Additionally, the officer's female colleague in the vehicle experienced whiplash and required hospitalization. Another police officer present in the patrol car sustained minor injuries such as bruises and contusions, which were treated on an outpatient basis, and she subsequently left her duty.

The section of Behrenstraße between Glinka- and Wilhelmstraße was completely closed to traffic, including pedestrians, while investigators assessed the scene and attended to the injured parties. This led to significant traffic disruptions in the area.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is being conducted by a specialized traffic offenses department.
