Police Seek Witnesses in Shooting of Rolls-Royce Driver

Tue 18th Feb, 2025

Authorities in Berlin are investigating a shooting incident involving the driver of a Rolls-Royce Spectre in the Steglitz district. On February 6, a gunman opened fire on the 58-year-old driver at the intersection of Geranienstraße and Hindenburgdamm around 1 PM, striking him in the neck and causing a non-life-threatening injury.

Initially, police considered the possibility that the driver might have been a victim of mistaken identity, but that theory has since been ruled out. The case has now been taken over by a murder commission, which is pursuing charges of attempted murder against an unidentified suspect.

Investigators believe that the shooter had a specific motive for targeting the Rolls-Royce driver, suggesting that the shooter was familiar with the victim. The Rolls-Royce Spectre is a luxury vehicle, with a starting price of approximately EUR390,000, making it the most expensive electric car globally.

To assist in identifying the shooter, police have released images of the Rolls-Royce taken shortly after the shooting occurred. The victim managed to drive approximately 300 meters from the scene before contacting law enforcement.

According to reports, the assailant was initially seated as a passenger in a waiting vehicle and exited as the Rolls-Royce approached. The shooter fired through the open window on the driver's side, grazing the victim before the bullet shattered the glass on the passenger side. Following the attack, the suspect reportedly fled on foot towards Geranienstraße. It remains unclear whether he re-entered the vehicle.

The police have since confiscated the victim's car for forensic examination. As the investigation continues, authorities are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with information regarding the shooting to come forward.

Details surrounding the motive for the attack and the identity of the victim have not been disclosed by law enforcement, who are maintaining confidentiality to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
