Thu 27th Mar, 2025

A Berlin man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on Mallorca's popular Ballermann strip. This decision was reached in a swift trial, where the prosecution and defense came to an agreement shortly before proceedings began.

The individual, aged 28, will also be required to pay a substantial compensation of EUR500,000 to the victim's family. This amount includes EUR200,000 for each of the victim's two children and EUR100,000 for the victim's wife, originally from Magdeburg. The compensation is expected to be financed through the sale of the convicted man's property.

The stabbing occurred in October 2023 during an altercation at a popular bar on the island. According to the prosecution, the accused attacked the 33-year-old victim, who had been living on Mallorca for several years, stabbing him eleven times. The victim's death was described as a particularly brutal and painful end.

Reports indicate that the two men were acquainted, with the accused having previously worked at the victim's restaurant on the island. While speculation arises regarding a possible financial dispute, the official charges did not specify a clear motive for the attack.

This case has drawn significant media attention and raises questions about safety in tourist areas, especially during peak seasons when crowds are at their highest.
