BeMe Theatre, the only professional English-language theatre group in Munich has just emerged from a successful production of Pochsy's Lips, a one-women show addressing the postmodern absurdity of consumerism within society to bring us Harold Pinter's Betrayal.
Set in reverse order, the tale of a love affair starts in 1977 with its conclusion and ends with where it all started, in 1968. BeMe Theatre's production will be more contemporary, taking place between 2001 and 1992. Emma, torn between lover and husband must justify lying to Robert, her husband, while Jerry cheats on his wife, the unseen Judith. The emotional involvement demanded of the audience is somewhat relieved by the absurd conversations conducted by the characters when they are all together.
A must-see classic and winner of the 1979 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play.
