Augsburg - A 43-year-old woman fell victim to an impersonation scam on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The perpetrator, posing as a bank employee, contacted her via telephone and claimed that there were unauthorized transactions occurring on her bank account.

To prevent these alleged fraudulent activities, the scammer instructed the woman to execute cancellation transfers. Under the influence of the caller's deception, she proceeded to make several transfers, resulting in a financial loss estimated in the upper three-digit range.

The Augsburg Criminal Police are currently investigating the case as a fraud incident. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant against such scams and have issued the following safety tips:

  • Be cautious with inquiries about your financial situation and avoid sharing personal information.
  • Neither banks, savings banks, police, nor other official agencies send "money exchangers" or "counterfeit money testers" to your home. If such individuals appear, contact the police immediately.
  • When returning calls to clients, companies, or authorities, always look up the phone number yourself and dial it directly.
