Atari Launches 2600 My Play Watch for Gaming Enthusiasts

Wed 19th Mar, 2025

Atari has recently unveiled the Atari 2600 My Play Watch, a smartwatch designed specifically for fans of classic video games. This unique device allows users to play iconic games such as Pong, Centipede, Missile Command, and Super Breakout through its touch display or crown interface, reminiscent of the menus found on traditional Atari consoles.

The watch features sound effects that echo those of the original Atari 2600 console, which made its debut in the United States in 1977 and reached Germany in 1978. Atari has also released a modern version of the classic console, known as the Atari 2600+.

Limited Smart Features

Despite its nostalgic appeal, the Atari 2600 My Play Watch has limited smart capabilities. Notably, the device does not support Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity, meaning it cannot sync with smartphones or download additional applications. This limitation suggests that while it is branded as a smartwatch, its functionality is quite basic.

Atari promotes this intentional design choice as a means to prevent users from being distracted by notifications, allowing them to immerse themselves in gameplay or simply check the time. However, the device does include some essential fitness tracking features, such as heart rate monitoring, step counting, and calorie tracking. It also boasts an IP68 rating, making it resistant to dust and water immersion.

The display measures 2.02 inches and utilizes TFT technology, indicating that it does not feature an OLED panel.

Availability and Pricing

The Atari 2600 My Play Watch is priced at $80 and is currently available for pre-order on the company's official website, with shipping expected to commence on June 10. The package includes the watch itself along with three interchangeable wristbands, allowing for personalization.

This innovative product caters to a niche market of retro gaming enthusiasts and provides a unique blend of nostalgia and basic smartwatch functionality.
