Asus Device Bugs in Windows 11 24H2 Update Resolved

Sun 16th Feb, 2025

The recent Windows 11 24H2 update has encountered significant issues for certain Asus devices, but solutions are now available. Microsoft had previously halted the update for specific models due to compatibility concerns, but the company has issued guidance for users to resolve these problems.

Devices affected include the Asus X415KA and X515KA, which were unable to install the update due to a safeguard ID blocking the process. To address this, Microsoft has released a BIOS update that users must download to eliminate the safeguard ID and proceed with the installation of the Windows 11 24H2 update.

According to Microsoft, the BIOS update is categorized as a critical update and can be accessed via Windows Update. While the safeguard ID remains in place initially, it will be gradually lifted as additional devices receive the update. Users are encouraged to check for updates in the 'Settings' under 'Windows Update' to ensure their systems are compatible with the latest version of Windows.

Previously, users attempting to manually force the update might have faced a 'Blue Screen of Death' (BSOD), resulting in system crashes and failed installations. Microsoft has collaborated with Asus to identify the root cause of these issues, which were traced back to specific, unspecified hardware components in the affected devices.

Additionally, recent updates have resolved issues related to HDR gaming. Some games utilizing the 'Auto HDR' feature were reported to be unresponsive or displayed incorrect color profiles. Microsoft intends to remove the corresponding safeguard ID for these games shortly, although users may experience a waiting period of up to 48 hours before the Windows 11 24H2 update becomes available.

The problems affecting Asus devices were acknowledged by Microsoft last October, leading to the implementation of safeguard ID 54157480 to block the update on the impacted machines. With the recent developments, users can now look forward to a smoother experience with the Windows 11 24H2 update.
