Arrest of Algerian National at Aachen Main Station

Tue 28th Jan, 2025

Aachen - The Federal Police apprehended a 22-year-old Algerian man at Aachen's main train station after he arrived on the Euregiobahn from Belgium. Authorities report that there was an outstanding arrest warrant against him issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Hannover, primarily related to theft charges.

This individual has a history of criminal activity, having been previously convicted multiple times for property crimes and for unlawful residency in Germany. In 2024, he was deported to France and subsequently received a ban on re-entering Germany. His application for asylum was also definitively rejected.

Due to his unauthorized re-entry and violation of the residency ban, he has been charged and is currently held at the Aachen Correctional Facility.

In a separate incident, the Federal Police arrested a 45-year-old Greek national on Monday afternoon. He entered Germany via a long-distance bus from the Netherlands. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Potsdam had been searching for him due to an unpaid penalty order related to driving without a valid license, which required him to pay a fine exceeding 2,000 euros or serve a 25-day prison sentence.

Unable to settle his debt, he was taken into custody at the Aachen police headquarters. During the arrest, officers discovered 26 grams of marijuana in his possession, which has since been confiscated. He will also face legal repercussions for this offense.

This report is based on official information provided by law enforcement agencies.
