Recent rumors from China have shed light on Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone, which is projected to launch in 2026. Information about its display specifications and camera features has begun to surface, fueling excitement among tech enthusiasts.
According to reports from a prominent leaker known as Digital Chat Station on social media platform Weibo, Apple is planning to incorporate two screens into its foldable device, similar to existing models like the Galaxy Fold. The external display is expected to measure just 5.49 inches, notably smaller than the current iPhone 16 Pro Max, which boasts a 6.9-inch screen. For context, the iPhone 13 mini features a 5.4-inch display. The resolution of this outer screen is reportedly set at 2088 x 1422 pixels, while the recently released iPhone 13 mini has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels.
The main display, designed for use when the device is unfolded, is rumored to be around 7.76 inches in size, slightly smaller than earlier predictions of nearly 8 inches. It is believed to feature a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels, presenting a 4:3 aspect ratio. This aspect ratio could pose a challenge for video playback, as it may result in black bars on either side of the screen. However, it could facilitate multitasking by allowing users to run multiple applications simultaneously, provided that Apple updates iOS to support this functionality. Previous discussions have indicated that Apple aims to create a display that minimizes creasing, a common issue with foldable screens, utilizing advanced mechanics to prevent visible folds.
In addition to the display details, Digital Chat Station has also revealed potential camera innovations for the foldable iPhone. The company appears to be exploring the use of an under-display camera, a technology that conceals the camera behind the screen for a cleaner look. This camera would primarily be utilized for selfies, while the rear camera system is said to consist of two sensors, as opposed to the three found in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. Instead of relying solely on Face ID for facial recognition, Apple may incorporate a Touch ID fingerprint sensor within the device's power or sleep/wake button. Furthermore, there are whispers of a larger iPad or Mac model in development, possibly exceeding 18 inches in size.
As the anticipation builds for Apple's first foray into the foldable smartphone market, tech aficionados and industry experts alike are eager to see how these rumored features will translate into reality. With the tech landscape evolving rapidly, Apple's innovations in this space will be closely watched.
