Upcoming MacBook Air M4 Release Details

Apple is gearing up for a spring hardware rollout, with the anticipated launch of the MacBook Air (MBA) featuring the M4 chip expected in March. According to industry insights, the company has initiated preparations for this release, following the recent unveiling of the iPhone 16e.

Timing and Expectations

While initial expectations were for a February announcement, reports indicate that Apple is now focusing on March for the MacBook Air M4's introduction. Sources suggest that the preparation phase includes readying marketing and retail teams for the product launch, indicating that stock levels of current models are being reduced in anticipation of the new release.

Model Specifications

The upcoming MacBook Air will reportedly consist of two models, both powered by the M4 system-on-chip (SoC), without the Max and Pro variants. The physical design is expected to remain consistent, with options for 13-inch and 15-inch displays. Additionally, there may be a transition from Wi-Fi 6E to the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard, although further details on internal changes have yet to emerge.

Current MacBook Air Models

As of now, Apple offers the MacBook Air M3 starting at EUR1,299 for the 13-inch model and EUR1,599 for the 15-inch version. An older model equipped with the M2 chip is still available for purchase but only in the 13-inch size. The M3 was introduced in March 2024, making the timing of the M4 release seem fitting.

Future Developments

Looking ahead, there are speculations about the introduction of M5-equipped Macs later this year, potentially aligning with the launch of new MacBook Pro models or even an updated iPad Pro, which may debut in May. Last year, the iPad Pro was the first device to receive the new chip alongside a shift from LCD to OLED display technology. However, this might have been an isolated decision as users noted that the advanced capabilities of the M4 chip were not fully utilized due to the limitations of the iPadOS.
