Expansion of Digital Apple Account Card to More Countries

Fri 14th Mar, 2025

Apple is set to roll out its digital account card feature, known as the Apple Account Card, to several additional countries. Currently, this virtual card is available in the Apple Wallet app, allowing users to make purchases across a variety of Apple services and products, including apps, subscriptions, and hardware.

The Apple Account Card has been a convenience in the United States since its introduction in 2022, enabling easier access to Apple account balances directly from the Wallet app. Users no longer need to navigate through account settings to view their balances, as this information is now easily accessible. Furthermore, the card allows users to pay directly at Apple retail locations by presenting the virtual card.

As part of the expansion, reports suggest that the Apple Account Card will soon be available in at least six additional countries: Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This development was highlighted by a leak from a developer, indicating that the feature is likely tied to an upcoming software update.

While this new feature is gaining traction in multiple markets, it raises questions about the absence of Germany from the initial rollout. Given that the Apple Account Card operates as an internal payment system, it's unclear why some European countries, including Germany, have not been included in this expansion. The functionality of the card is dependent on having the same iCloud account linked to the App Store and media purchases, which may also influence its availability.

The Apple Account Card represents a shift in how users can manage their Apple balances, making transactions smoother and more integrated within the Apple ecosystem. As the digital payment landscape continues to evolve, Apple's move to broaden access to this feature may enhance user experience and engagement in new markets.
