Amazon Launches New Linear Streaming Channel on Prime Video on April 17

Thu 27th Feb, 2025

Amazon is set to unveil a new linear streaming channel on April 17, which will be accessible through Amazon Prime Video. This service aims to provide viewers with a traditional TV experience, featuring scheduled programming similar to conventional broadcast channels. The announcement was made on February 26.

The upcoming channel will not only showcase content already available to Prime subscribers but will also air live sporting events, including high-profile matches from the UEFA Champions League and tennis tournaments like Wimbledon. While the service will include advertisements akin to traditional TV, Amazon assures that the ad breaks will be less intrusive than those typically found on standard television.

All existing Amazon Prime members will have access to this new channel at no additional cost, allowing them to enjoy a curated selection of programming without needing to search extensively through the platform.

Amazon's decision to launch this channel is rooted in the increasing diversity of content available on its platform. The company aims to offer a more streamlined viewing experience, enabling users to easily access a variety of shows and films.

The new channel will be featured among the existing live TV options on the Prime Video website and app, positioning it alongside traditional broadcasters.

At launch, viewers can expect to see the first two seasons of the German version of 'LOL: Last One Laughing' during prime time at 8:15 PM. Other planned additions to the programming lineup include popular titles such as 'Reacher,' 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,' and 'Fallout.'

According to Christoph Schneider, Managing Director of Amazon Prime Video in Germany, this initiative aims to provide 'lean-back entertainment' while also offering better orientation and quicker access to the extensive catalog available on Prime Video. He noted that this new channel serves as an additional showcase for the vast array of content that Amazon has to offer, much of which is not prominently displayed on the main interface.
