Amazon Introduces New Shopping Features for Alexa+ in the US and Canada

Wed 10th Dec, 2025

Amazon has enhanced its Alexa+ voice assistant in the United States and Canada with a set of new features aimed at streamlining the online shopping experience. The latest update, available on select Alexa-enabled devices, is designed to encourage users to shop more efficiently and conveniently through Amazon's ecosystem.

The update introduces a dedicated shopping hub accessible on the company's Echo Show 15 and Echo Show 21 devices. This dashboard allows users to view real-time order information, review recent purchases, and manage shopping lists directly from their device's screen. The interface also presents tailored household product recommendations, making it easier for users to add suggested items to their Amazon shopping cart with a single touch and proceed to checkout.

Another significant feature enables users to append products to existing orders, provided the order has not yet shipped from the warehouse. This addition aims to reduce the need for multiple transactions and deliveries, contributing to a more seamless shopping process for consumers.

The enhanced Alexa+ also includes a function for generating gift suggestions, with recommendations displayed visually on supported devices. This capability is designed to assist users in finding suitable presents for various occasions, thereby expanding the role of Alexa+ beyond everyday shopping to include special event planning.

Amazon has previously introduced a feature that automatically purchases items when their prices drop to a user-specified threshold, further integrating shopping automation into its voice assistant platform. These ongoing developments indicate Amazon's continued efforts to position Alexa devices, particularly those with screens, as central tools for digital commerce.

Historically, voice-activated shopping via Alexa's original iteration saw limited adoption, as only a minority of users made purchases solely through voice commands. Amazon appears to be addressing this challenge by focusing on devices with visual interfaces, which may offer a more intuitive and user-friendly shopping experience. The combination of touch and voice controls on Echo Show devices enables a more interactive and engaging approach to online shopping.

Currently, the new Alexa+ shopping features are available exclusively in the US and Canada. However, the overhauled Alexa+ assistant has also begun rolling out in other markets, including Germany, where a select group of users has been invited to participate in beta testing since late November. Broader availability is expected as Amazon continues to refine these capabilities based on user feedback and regional requirements.

The integration of these new features underscores Amazon's commitment to evolving its smart home ecosystem and enhancing the value proposition of its Alexa devices. By leveraging both artificial intelligence and user interface improvements, Amazon aims to simplify the shopping process and encourage greater engagement with its platform.

As the competition in the smart assistant market intensifies, innovations such as those introduced with Alexa+ are likely to shape consumer expectations for convenience, automation, and personalization in digital commerce.
