Truck Accident on A21 Leads to Major Disruption and Animal Disposal

A significant truck accident occurred on the A21 highway near Travenbrück, causing extensive damage and leading to a complete closure of the roadway. The incident took place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at approximately 11:20 PM when a Lithuanian truck overturned in a construction zone.

The vehicle crashed through a concrete guardrail and ended up on the opposite side of the highway. Preliminary investigations revealed that the 62-year-old driver was exceeding the speed limit by 22 km/h, as indicated by the vehicle's onboard recorder.

At the time of the accident, the truck was transporting around 21 tons of pig carcasses. Following an assessment by the veterinary authorities, it was determined that the contents had to be disposed of due to safety concerns.

The driver sustained minor injuries from the accident. The total estimated damage from the incident is approximately 112,000 euros. The A21 remained fully closed until Sunday evening at 8:50 PM, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.

This event highlights the ongoing risks associated with road transport, particularly in construction zones where speed regulations are critical for ensuring safety. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident to prevent similar incidents in the future.
