Bavarian airports are expecting slightly more traffic during the week-long fall vacations, but not a rush of passengers. "The fall vacations are not such a focus for us," said a spokesman for Munich Airport.
The busiest travel days are expected to be Friday (today) and Sunday next week. In total, more than 6,000 takeoffs and landings of scheduled and charter aircraft are registered during this period, he said. That compares with about 3,000 flights during last year's fall vacations and more than 10,000 during the 2019 fall vacations.
The most important destinations are Spain, Italy, and France said the Munich airport spokesman. For Palma de Mallorca alone, 78 connections are registered. It is essential that passengers inquire about the current entry requirements in the destination country and on the return to Germany and have all necessary vaccination and test certificates ready. Due to the corona checks, there may be waiting times. Lufthansa recommends arriving at the airport two hours before departure.
Companies still holding back on business travel
Nuremberg Airport does not expect a rush, but an increased number of passengers. Four destinations are on offer on the Canary Islands, and there are also more flights to Mallorca and Egypt, said an airport spokesman. Since January, he said, flights had been mainly taken by holidaymakers and private travelers visiting family or friends, for example in Turkey, Romania, or Italy. This year, Nuremberg Airport expects one million passengers, up from 4.1 million in 2019. Business travel is slowly coming back, he said, but many companies are still holding back. The development also depends on the trade fair.
Memmingen Airport is expecting relatively heavy departure traffic on Sunday and Monday, and heavy return traffic the following weekend. In recent weeks, the aircraft has been consistently well utilized, said an airport spokeswoman. At Memmingen, too, "we recommend being there two hours before departure."
